Common Print Sizes at 300dpi

Pixel Rendering by Simon Lee

As a digital artist working in the Procreate app, I am always trying to keep in mind common print sizes at 300dpi. I like to use this site because it has a handy pixels-to-inches calculator. You just enter what inches or pixels you are working with, and add the DPI (dots per inch). The more I’ve started using sites like Printful, the more I find it useful to start out with the proper size. So I created this nice table to refer to! I hope you find it helpful. I’ve also indicated which sizes can be used for posters and canvas in Printful.

IPhone Wallpaper art marketing experiment.

A surface pattern design I’ve been working on.

As far as art marketing goes, I’ve been leaning heavily towards Pinterest these days. Instagram is okay, but it feels like such a treadmill – liking and hashtagging all day long, just to get some engagement and attention from users who are also just trying to get my engagement and attention. Pinterest is different. I feel like people go on there looking for inspiration, and things to purchase. Also, my business page reports that I have over 5000 monthly impressions on my pins! I’m sure these numbers are skewed somehow to make it look good and make me want to use Pinterest for my art marketing. But even if they are exaggerated a bit, it’s still way more engagement than I get on either instagram, or this website. Read more

Generative Art Prints

Generative Art NFT

Trying something new this week: I’m taking some of the generative art prints I’ve made over the years and getting them ready to put in my shop. I’ve written a bit about my generative art process, which is not purely “generative,” in that it’s not created directly from code. Instead I use a sort of brute force method, where I employ algorithmic based art apps to generate many iterations of an image. I then choose the best ones out of hundreds of choices. On my to do list is to learn how to use processing, so I can code my own art. Read more

Digital Printable Graphic Poster

This week I am experimenting with a process to make a digital printable graphic poster. I’ve been using Printful to make and sell products but I have also been testing out digital printables and selling them on etsy. Awhile back I wrote a comparison of the two methods. So far, I haven’t made that much progress with selling digital printables, but I think part of the problem is that I don’t have enough products listed. The funny thing is that I have plenty of images in my library to turn into digital products! I just need to hunker down and start turning them into products. Read more

Printable Art: Fuschia Gladiolus

Abstract Pink Gladiolus Wall Art
I’ve recently been inspired to start adding some printable art to my etsy store. It’s been a slow going process (like – really slow – I started in 2018!) I changed my process to start creating digital art that can be printed at higher resolutions, and I thought this would be great for the shop. The above Fuschia Gladiolus image is for sale and can be printed as big as 28 by 14 inches at 300 dpi. Here’s a sample of what it might look like as wall art: Read more
