This is a rhododendron from my backyard. The thing I love about these flowers is that when in bloom, they appear to be lit from within.

This was taken out of my car window, approaching the toll booth at Corson’s Inlet Bridge, between Strathmere and Ocean City, New Jersey.
From Wikipedia:
“The U.S. Naval Academy Bridge is a bridge that crosses the Severn River in Annapolis, Maryland. It is located downriver from the Severn River Bridge and adjacent to the United States Naval Academy. Its predecessor, a bascule bridge, once served as the main point of entry into Annapolis from both Ritchie Highway and the ferry to the Eastern Shore prior to the construction of the John Hanson Highway and the current Severn River Bridge. In 1994, the bascule bridge was replaced with the current crossing. The bridge’s design was the winning entry of a bridge design competition, and was officially named the U.S. Naval Academy Bridge in honor of the Naval Academy’s 150th anniversary.

Sometimes I think I take way too many pictures of flowers. They’re like the low-hanging fruit of photography. I mean how hard is it to take a bad picture of a flower?
Still. I love this picture. The stillness of it, the vibrancy. And by saying I love this picture, it’s not like I can take credit. You use a good camera with a wide open lens, point it at God’s creation, and this is what you get.
